I figured that since PRM changes its staff every year, I should probably introduce myself. My name is Simone (hello!) and I’m PRM 2014’s new Social Media (Correspondent? Director?) Person! With a wide range of skills including: growing up during the 1990s and early 2000s, often speaking in a monotonous/mumbling voice, and the ability to throw bad puns into most conversations without people leaving, I became The Chosen One. And by that, I mean I was assigned the position of Social Media Director (same thing, right?). As you can tell, I’ve already botched the introduction (this is the third write up!) so we might as well detour into a short and sweet Q&A.
Q: Why did you choose Langara’s Publishing program?
A: I wasn’t sure what I wanted to go into, but I knew two things: I like design and I like writing. Once I heard about the program I then looked into it, attended an info session, had one (three) of the free cookies, and I was convinced. I applied shortly thereafter, and now we’re here!
Q: What’s your favourite part of the program?
A: The graphic design work. Also, the fact that I get a diploma in one year and that the instructors know what they’re doing and therefore want to help.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I’m a big fan of screen printing, baking and painting. They all take practice, dedication and creativity to master; and while I’m far from being a master at any, I love the process of trying to get to that point.
Q: Do you like long walks on the beach?
A: If that includes a paid-for vacation to Mexico, then yes, I love long walks on the beach. In all actuality I love the beaches along the West Coast, right down to Mexico, so yes I’m a fan. And no, this has nothing to do with Publishing.
