Meet PRM’s 2013 Production Department

SHARE

Makin’ their lists and checkin’ them twice (or three times…). Nope it isn’t good ‘ol St. Nick—it’s PRM’s 2013 Production Department! These ladies have been working hard to ensure PRM’s files are indestructible before they go to print. And since this team has been eating, sleeping, and dreaming in lists, they have each crafted their profiles in what else, but a list!

Melissa Cho

Name: Melissa Cho

PRM Job Title: Production Artist/Image Specialist

Top three best things about working on PRM:

1. Getting a behind the scenes look at creating a magazine.

2. Work experience/conditions.

3. Being associated with something that is distributed to the public.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

I would say that my personality is more like RGB. Most people see only a certain side of me that would be like CMYK, a small portion of RGB, but there is more than meets the eye. In certain situations RGB will shine with CMYK.

1. Stompa – Serena Ryder (English/French Version)

2. Oops! – G.NA feat. Ilhoon

3. Loca – Shakira feat. El Cata (Spanish Version)

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

1. Check InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator files so that they comply with production’s guidelines for PRM.

2. Colour correct and resize images and convert them from RGB to either CMYK or BW/Grey scale.

3. Double check ad files for PRM approval.

Top three best things about working on PRM:

1.Get to work with some pretty neat peeps.

2. Learning more about the industry so when we’re done here I have more knowledge about the industry.

3. The experience of working on a magazine.

*3b. And obviously the joys of working with Photoshop…obviously. In all seriousness, it’s good to get practice in.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

My personality I would say is a little bit of both. It’s just too hard to choose.

Top three songs most appropriate for colour correcting to:

1. Wide Eyes by Local Natives. Because after Photoshopping all those photos are going to leave you wide eyed.

2. Colours of the Wind by Pocohantas. Because it seemed fitting.

3. Oh, the Boss Is Coming! By the Arkells. Which is normally what I would say when I’m taking too long on something and need to scurry along to get my stuff done.

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

1. Checking photos so they’re ready for print.

2. Checking layouts.

3. Basically making sure that everything goes smoothly so we’re ready for the launch.

Top three best things about working on PRM:

1. Getting hands-on experience working on a widely distributed, professionally published magazine.

2. Being able to work collaboratively, and learning different techniques or styles from other classmates.

3. Feeling like we’re at work more than being at school.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

RGB because I’m all over the place (but somehow still organized)! I’m also glued to my phone, so my life is almost electronic. *cue robotic sounds*

Top three songs most appropriate for colour correcting to:

Here’s some colour-friendly albums! They’re also easy on the ears (and maybe eyes).

1. Miguel – Kaleidoscope Dream

3. Frank Ocean – Channel Orange

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

1. Making checklists.

2. Revise those checklists.

3. Irritate all other departments with my checklists.

– Oh and I *guess* do a little bit (and by a little bit I mean 30+ hours) of photo editing!

Mona Struthers

1. Seeing the magazine come together.

2. Applying the things I’ve learned so far to a live project.

3. Working with such a great team.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

RCGM, because I don’t want to choose one or the other.

Top three songs most appropriate for colour correcting to:

Hmmm….me and colour correcting. Not my area, so I would probably pick:

1. It Ain’t Easy – David Bowie

2. Feels Like We Only Go Backwards – Tame Impala

3. One More Cup of Coffee – Bob Dylan

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

Erin Wilkman

Name: Erin Wilkman

PRM Job Title: Associate Production Director

Top three best things about working on PRM:

1. I love how it’s such a realistic experience. I think it’s better than any sort of practicum they could have possibly thrown at us.

2. The people I work with both in and out of my department are great. It’s such a great environment to be creative in.

3. The Production room. It’s so great to have a room of our own for meetings, eating, or even just relaxing if you need a little break.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

CMYK. I can start out kinda quiet and dull, but with a little effort and a few adjustments, I brighten right up and can become almost as colourful as an RGB! But, you know, more realistic.

Top three songs most appropriate for colour correcting to:

I listen to myself talk to, well, usually myself. (Helps me think about what I’m doing I guess? Yeah, let’s go with that. Sounds less crazy.)

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

1. Colour correcting photos.

2. Going through stacks of checklists.

3. Anxiously waiting for the other departments to give us piles of work which we will then have only two days to complete.

Peggy Yet

Name: Peggy Yet

PRM Job Title: Production Artist

Top three best things about working on PRM:

All lists are in no particular order:

1. Everyone here is a great person, and is fun to be around and work with.

2. The experience of working on a real magazine, doing real jobs related to the magazine, and seeing what it takes to put it together.

3. The cookies.

Are you more CMYK or RGB?

I’m more like RGB because even though there are many vibrant colours to my person, I am not always able to express every one in all mediums properly?

Top three songs most appropriate for colour correcting to:

1. Knot In My Heart – The Zolas

2. Ancient Mars – The Zolas

3. Sleep Alone – Two Door Cinema Club

Three main duties of your job on PRM:

1. Preflighting

2. Photo editing

3. Doing whatever Carolyn / Erin / Ramona tells me to do.
