Here is Diego Manaligod. Looking at life through a lens, he beautifully captures nature in all of its glory. He was the Assistant Art Director on the print magazine, and a Web Designer for the magazine’s website.

How did you get your start in photography? Is it a hobby or do you see bigger plans for it?

I started getting into photography around 3 years ago, but I’ve always been surrounded by it. My dad loved photography and so growing up seeing cameras, film, and photos was very common. At first, I saw it as a hobby: photographing landscapes, nature, and people but now, after the publishing program, I see my passion for photography as an asset as well. The principles that are involved are not so different from design, and typography. In fact, I see all those things working together quite well. Photography will definitely influence my career.

What style of photography is your favourite to shoot?

I love landscape photography, specifically astrophotography. The preparation, the timing, and the effort is what makes it worthwhile.

Do you have a creative process in order to get your ideas to be realistic?

For photography, when it comes to composing and exposing for my images, my creative process always begins with light. How much light is there? How much light do I want to capture? How fast is it? Everything else technical just flows from there.

You have $500 to burn, all your friends are busy and you have the whole day to yourself, what do you do?

Helicopter ride the whole day (hope that’s enough money) with my camera!

If you were transported 400 years into the past with nothing to help your case, how would you prove that you were from the future?

Oh man… hmm. I think just knowing significant historical figures’ deaths would help me prove that! (Kinda sounds gruesome and shady but hopefully if I was convincing and innocent-looking enough! LOL)

If you could be anyone’s apprentice for a day and learn all that they know, who would you choose?

Terry Van Roon.
